Lavender Scones "Hit" at Fremont Fest

Fremont Fest gave Dr. Lori the opportunity to tell folks about the benefits of herbs, particularly the NW's plentiful rosemary, lavender, lemon balm and mint.  All are members of the mint family and all have antiseptic properties and best of all they taste good!  The lavender coconut and lavender lemon scones disappeared first.  She also made rosemary scones and teas from each of the herbs for tasting.  Here is the recipe for the scones with variations.

 Scones

1 1/2c flour 1/4tsp salt

1/4c sugar 1/3c butter

1 1/4tsp baking powder 1/2c milk

1/2tsp baking soda

Mix flour, sugar, powder, soda and salt together in bowl.  Cut in butter.  Add milk and mix only until batter is wet.  Turn onto floured surface.  Knead 5-10 times.  Pat into circle and cut into 6 pie shaped pieces.  Bake at 375F until lightly brown, about 20min.

The Story of Water

There's a new informational video by Annie Leonard, who brought us The Story of Stuff, which talks about bottled water and how it is destroying our environment and sense of well being.  I hope you'll take the time to watch it, and then get yourself a reusable water bottle.  Click here: The Story of Bottled Water

Sunny Portland!

Be sure to get out in the sun and soak up the Vitamin D!  Vitamin D is instrumental in helping your body to fight off viruses in a non-invasive and enjoyable way.  Sunshine also helps with Seasonal Affective Disorder to reduce the winter blues or depression.  Enjoy the sun!
