Cold and Flu Prevention:
Steps You Can Take

When you first feel yourself becoming sick, there are things you can do to avoid becoming ill or to shorten the duration of illness. These suggestions are especially helpful if you do them early onÑas early as possible. They will help you fend off a cold or flu.

Eat Very Lightly Or Not At All - With most illnesses, the appetite is diminished. This is a natural response of the body. Energy is needed to fight off the "bug" and the body doesn't have the energy to process food. Give your digestive tract a rest! If you are hungry, eat soups, stews and steamed vegetables. Avoid CATS-Caffeine, Alcohol, Tobacco and Sugar. They do nothing to support your immune system.

Get Rest As Soon As Possible - Many people ignore the early warning signs of illness and keep working until they "drop." You will take longer to heal if you allow the illness to get a foothold. If you feel a sore throat, headache, congestion etc., coming on, take it easy. If possible, take a day off from work. This may prevent you from having to take three days off later on.

Drink Plenty Of Fluids -You can clear the toxins from a "bug" out of your system with large amounts of filtered water and herb teas. If you drink fruit/vegetable juices, water them down 50:50.

Sweat It Out - Creating a fever helps your body fight the invading "bug". Take a hot bath while drinking a warming tea like ginger. Doing this at the first sign of illness and immediately going to bed can often abort the cold.

Wash Your Hands Often - Washing hands does indeed reduce your chances of picking up a "bug".

Consider a homeopathic flu preventive rather than the mercury-containing flu vaccine --The majority of flu vaccinations in the U.S. contain thimerosal, a mercury containing preservative. While the FDA states there is no substantial evidence of adverse effects from the mercury in this vaccination, there is factual evidence that mercury is a toxic heavy metal in any amount, disrupting multiple enzyme systems including the immune and nervous systems. Common sources of mercury include auto exhaust, laxatives, cosmetics, fish, vegetables and fruits that have been exposed to pesticides and dental amalgams. Why add to our already toxic burden when we have a choice?

A natural alternative is Mucococcinum. Mucococcinum is a homeopathic medicine prepared with various bacterial and viral fractions. As a homeopathic preparation, this medicine gently activates the body's natural defense mechanisms to protect itself from contracting the flu 'bug'. Several studies conducted in Belgium have shown Mucococcinum to have a positive immune boosting effect on lung and lymphatic tissues. This means that it directly stimulates the immune system, thus protecting itself against the very bacteria and virus fractions that it is actually made from. Clinical studies have also shown this medicine to be highly effective at curing an existing flu if treated early enough. With proper use, Mucococcinum can offer a safe and natural way to treat and prevent all types of flu that you may encounter this winter.
